Groups

You are welcome to come experience nature on our farm. We encourage schools, churches, organizations and scout groups to enjoy our camp site and walking trails for educational and fun purposes. We have developed a nature walking trail through a fifty acre tract of timber growing on a bluff along Trail Creek in eastern Harrison County.

Campground

We also have a primitive campsite at the area.

There are outcroppings of limestone with one area showing layers of coal, that early settlers probably used for heat during the winter.

There are three separate return trails for your walking convenience.

Return Trail 1

White Oak 125 yrs.

Many of the different trees are labeled as to species and approximate age.

There is one area where you can view a red oak tree root system on the edge of the bluff.

Burr Oak With Lighnting

Some large oak trees show the effects of lightning damage from many years ago.

One of the large red oak trees has been aged between 250 and 300 years old. It would have begun growth in the 1740 era.

White Oak 200 yrs.

Oak Decomposing

There are dead, moss covered trees which have been laying on the timbered floor for many years and are going through the decaying process of returning back to the soil. It is an opportunity to walk on soft spongy soil which has never been farmed or compacted. It has taken 6 to 12 thousand years to develop the 12 inches of topsoil on this land.

An Indian trail which was used as late as the 1860's is very visible and you can walk in it

This development is part of a working farm where livestock and grain have been produced since settlers first came to Harrison County 165 years ago in the 1830's. We believe there are many opportunities of learning here on our farm and nature trails.

Benches on the Trail

Benches are located along the trail.

Guided tours are available when scheduled in advance, for a fee of $ 5.00 for each student.
