Discover the Delights of East Sussex

The South Eastern counties of the United Kingdom are a delight to tourists. Situated in beautiful surroundings in East Sussex, Brighton is often described as one of the most vibrant cities in Europe. The area offers a variety of enchantments that will satisfy even the most demanding traveller. A visit to the Royal Pavilion is highly recommended. In the late seventeen hundreds the Prince Regent fled to Brighton to escape his strict father. He built the Royal Pavilion and was quickly followed by many members of the high society of the day who enjoyed the hedonistic lifestyle. This immaculately restored palace is probably the most dazzling and exotic building in Britain. It houses many attractions, including a fabulous collection of art and furniture.

There are many outdoor activities to be enjoyed. Hiking through the countryside is a very popular way of discovering many of the gems offered by the area. It is possible to take a daylong circular walking route, visiting many quaint pubs, shops and restaurants on the way. A visit to the South Downs National park is certainly worth a visit. This long range of chalk hills is deemed the most important of all chalk landscapes in England. It is possible to traverse the entire range by means of a well-kept footpath. Spectacular northwards views await at the end. Ashdown Forest provides a unique opportunity to meander through parks that has never been put under the plough.

Those that are interested in architecture are in for a singular indulgence. In ancient times, invading Romans and Normans left behind beautiful examples of the architecture of the time. Among the most notable are the Fishbourne palace and many castles, including Lewes, Hastings and Arundel. On South Downs there are some exceptionally good examples of Iron Age forts. There are also many excellent examples of medieval cottages, Tudor houses and Georgian coaching inns.

East Sussex is home to so many delights that it is almost impossible to plan an itinerary. There is so much to do and see!
